Parade of Homes Week 2014 Begins!! House #1

Welcome to Parade of Homes week!

The first house I am showcasing was built by M/I Homes. It is 5,517 square feet, has 5 bedrooms, 4 full baths and 2 half baths, and is listed for $899,990.

Overall, this house was my favorite! I absolutely loved the curb appeal, the funky drapes throughout the house, the light fixtures, and the hearth room off of the kitchen (which you will see in tomorrow's post!)

There were just two things I did not love. First, the bright kelly green color in the dining room and bathroom. Just not my cup of tea! Second, the fireplace. It just feels too stark and cold!

But seriously, aren't those drapes AMAZING?

Coming Next Week - 2014 Parade of Homes Pics! SNEAK PEEK!

If you've been following my blog for awhile, you know one of my favorite events of the year is the BIA Parade of Homes in Columbus, Ohio. I cannot wait to show you the pictures of the beautiful houses from this year! Next week I will be showcasing the full home tours Monday - Friday on the blog, so get excited! Here is a sneak peek of my favorites:

Might I also add, I went to this event even though I had just had my wisdom teeth pulled that morning and was in an immense amount of pain (Seriously, they had to shave away at my jaw bone and I was so swollen I looked like a chipmunk! It was more painful than labor!)

BUT, that's just what I will do to get beautiful, inspirational pictures for my readers, wink wink. Come back next week for the fun!

More of my Milesbear

I thought I needed an entire post just dedicated to the amazing pictures of Miles! He is truly the joy of my life! Doesn't his happiness and chubbiness in this first picture just make you melt?

We finally got a new couch, BUT.......

WELL, for our 6-year anniversary we finally decided to pull the trigger and buy ourselves a new couch! (As you know, I've wanted one for a long time!) We decided to go with the Value City Furniture Burnham sofa, which is the knock-off of the Restoration Hardware Lancaster Couch that I love. It fits the room perfectly, it is so comfortable, I lovvvve the size, and love the price! (We got it out the door and delivered for right around $1,550!)

The ONE problem? The couch has some serious red undertones when you look at it in a certain light, and I'm not 100% sure I can live with that. Ugh.

When you look at it from the front of the living room at dusk, it looks red. BRIGHT RED! But, if you stand at the back of the room at the same time, it looks chocolate brown (which I like!) You can totally see what I'm talking about the pictures above and below.

In fact, I was so thrown off by the color, I even brought one of the cushions to the store yesterday to compare it to the model to see if we just got a defective color, but no - it looks exactly the same as the display in the store! The issue is just the lighting in our house I guess.

Now, the Restoration Hardware one DEFINITELY has more brown undertones. But, we priced it out and to upgrade to their couch would be another $2,500 out-of-pocket. If I didn't have a messy husband, messy dog, messy kid, and more messy kids probably on the way in the future, I would definitely make the investment to get it PERFECT! But, is it really worth the extra money when we will probably destroy it in the next 10-years? Leaning towards no, but still debating.

Evan thinks I'm absolutely crazy and that there is no way we should upgrade. Your thoughts?

So much for that idea!!

Ok, I guess the blog update is going to have to wait due to people being COMPLETELY unresponsive! I could go on and on about it for an entire post, but I'd just end up getting myself worked up and I don't want to take away from this beautiful day! That being said, the blog makeover is going to be on hold for a little while I shop around for a new designer.

LOTS of exciting things to share though:

1) New Parade of Homes pictures! (They are a-m-a-z-i-n-g!)
2) Pictures of the new couch we may have purchased for our anniversary! (FINALLY!)
3) Beautiful family pictures we had taken a few weeks ago
4) Decor ideas for Miles' "Big Boy" room
5) Fall Decor ideas (Yes, they are already brewing in my mind!)
